Once upon a time, in a land called Supper, there lived a giraffe. Giraffe was a very haughty animal, it thought it could control the world. It was also a scientist.

One day, while making an elecrolyte of NaCl, Giraffe had a brainwave. He devised a cunning plan to use to make a new kind of cell: the Galvanic cell. This cell could convert chemical energy to electrical energy.

To set up his master plan, he stole some Zinc off the local Masai’s roofs, and he mined for copper in the riverbed. He attached a voltmeter (which he’d invented many years ago) to two electrodes, each in their own ionic solution of the same solution. On the positive terminal of the voltmeter, he attached the Copper electrode; and on the negative he put the Zinc.

The two beakers were connected by a salt bridge which: 1.Completed the circuit, 2. Ensured electrical neutrality and 3. Kept the solutions seperate.

Using different combinations, the giraffe managed to envent the cell that we call a battery. We use it in torches, cars and things like that.

Giraffe’s rival was Sausage dog, who was also a brilliant scientist. Sausage dog was the founder of organic chemistry. He discovered hydrocarbons, which are molecules consisting of Hydrogen and Carbon only. He called the saturated hydrocarbons Alkanes, and the unsaturated hydrocarbons he divided into Alkenes and Alkynes.

He did many experiments, and learnt that Alkanes underwent substitution when in a reaction, while Alkynes and Alkenes experienced addition. All three hydrocarbons could experience elimination during a reaction. Then he discovered cracking, which is a chemical process where long carbon chains arebroken into smaller, more managable pieces. This procees is used in the production of fuel.

He did further experiments and developed names for the different kinds of hydrocarbons. There were Esters (end in, -oate), Keytones (end in -anone), Aldehydes (end in -anal), Amines, Amides and Carboxylic acids.

Led Hi. My name is Led. I’m a… well I think I’m an otter. Don’t laugh! (sniff) My mommy told me that I am what I want myself to be, and that’s an otter. I mean they’re fluffy, and smart and fast and… If you’re a crab, well, all you are is crusty. Who wants to be crusty? With eyes always on stalks, and only walk sideways. You’ve got to be kidding me.

I met an otter today. He was so friendly, he played hide and go seek with me (guess who was It). I found an awesome hiding place, the sucker couldn’t even find me. Cool, huh? I saw another otter playing with my best friend Liza, it turned a little rough at the end. He ate her. The bastard. I mean that’s just not fair, he should have left me some nice fleshy meat (lets face it, she was in her prime, perfectly plump). Sigh. Hehe.

I found my friendly otter again today. He wanted to continue yesterdays game. I had to turn him down. Don’t look at me like that! I wasn’t bieng mean, I was very busy looking for Clara. She’s going to marry me, I can’t wait! I bet she’ll be great in bed. No, I haven’t slept with her yet, we don’t believe in the whole ‘sex before marrige’ thing.

Clara’s looking amazing, she has the most beautiful eyes, and you must see her legs… Whew! STUNNING! (Drool) She’s going to make me nice kids, I can’t imagine more hansome parents than us.

Great! Here come’s Mr Otter. Hey Dude, how you? Don’t get too close dude, you’re scaring me. Dude, don’t open you’re mouth like that! EEEEEEEEEK…….
